Rusty metal Hare sculpture for the gardenHare sculpture for the garden

The Running Hare Garden Sculptures

Curvaceous, contemporary metal garden art

The Running Hare sculptures are one of our latest pieces. We are lucky enough to be surrounded by fields and often see the Hares running and leaping across the field.

The curvaceous, contemporary design of The Hare is crafted from thick 6mm sheet steel. The design is slightly larger than the real thing and the legs, body and ears have been elongated to emphasize one of the most distinctive features of the Hare.  The sculpture comes with a ground plate which slots onto the legs and is designed to sit flat on the ground to act as a counter balance to the long out stretched legs. Pieces are allowed to rust naturally, the rusted finish continually evolves with time, its rich warm hues glowing in the winter sun, brightening up the garden through the winter months.

There is no doubt that the Hare garden sculptures make an impressive sight, set in the lawn or among trees. But you don’t need to have a large garden, the Hare sculptures can look great even in the smallest of gardens and could be mounted on an Oak base for displaying on the patio.

Installation is easy– The legs of the sculptures have been extended and enlarged to allow for easy installation and can be placed straight into compacted earth or concreted in. Simply push the sculpture into the ground. If the ground is hard, we’ve found it helps to make a make a slot in the ground with a garden spade and push the foot into the slot using a slight rocking motion, watering the ground also helps when the soil is baked hard. The ground plate is designed to sit flat on the ground to balance the weight of the outstretched legs of the Hare sculpture.

Sculpture Finish / Aftercare – Our sculptures are supplied with the rusting process well under way and you will find that the colour will continually evolve with time particularly during in the fist year. During the first year it’s quite common for the surface to flake, The flaking is all part of the rusting process, its the layer of mill scale that’s formed when the steel is manufactured. Eventually the whole deer will peel it’s layer of scale becoming darker. Then over a period of about six months it will gradually turn and settle down to a more golden colour with a slight mottling.

Any scuffs or marks to the surface will gradually disappear over time as the rust patina develops. Birds do seem to make a habit of leaving their mark on the sculptures. From experience we have found the best way of removing them is to scrub the marks with an old toothbrush and a little water.
